A Night in the Library
The object of the week was to encourage students to develop a sense of comfort when using a library. It began with older students reading aloud to younger students. The book chosen was the Nightingale and the Rose. Slovenian teachers delivered a CPD to guest teachers about teaching to speakers of another tongue. The workshops prepared during Culture Day and the Night in the Library focused on promoting various reading strategies to help improve the reading skills of less able learners, and for raising levels of engagement for more able learners.
evaluation of the visit to Slovenia
students enjoyed the Night in the Library because they could participate together with other students in groups enabling them to have fun and learn at the same time. Working together as a team was regarded as a fun way to develop reading strategies but working alone was still viewed as important.
